    Description

An amazing letter written just three days after the death of Robert's wife, Mary. They had come home on their one and only furlow, having originally gone to the field and there been married in 1819. She died on the 10th of January, 1871. This
    single
sheet letter, written from Brixton in England, and sent to South Africa, is apparently to one who is helping
    wrap
up her affairs there: "7, Bedford Cottages, Barrington Road, Brixton, S.W. 13 Jany. 1871. Very dear Friend, O what thanks I have (?) for all the trouble you are taking. You will receive the enclosed endorsed & All right. I, or rather we, feel the old extremely today. I think my cold is better. Did not sleep well & feel weak & I suppose I shall do so as the
    extreme
excitement wears off. Affectionately Yours. Robert Moffat." Good condition with very small tear at one fold.
