    Something really different for those of you who like to go out and cowtrail on those
    warm, sunny afternoons, by
    Right off the bat I would like to say
    this idea is not an original one with
    me. It came from a long-time friend,
    Jim Hunter, who at this writing is
    building a similar machine for himself.
    Anybody living in the Southern Cali-
    fornia area knows about Jim Hunter
    and his amazing string of successes
    using B.S.A. Gold Star singles.

    After selling my Maico, I suddenly
    found myself without a big bore ma-
    chine to ride in the dirt and began
    looking around for something to re-
    place it. For five years now I've had
    this little nagging voice in the back
    of my mind telling me I ought to get
    myself another Gold Star. (I've owned
    three of them in the past with varying
    degrees of success.) I finally suc-
    cumbed and went down to Jim's
    shop, where he must own virtually
    every Gold Star sent into the sunny
    southland.
    The one I wound up buying was
    in sad need of refurbishing. My origi-
    nal plan was to rebuild the complete
    motorcycle, using the standard frame,
    swinging arm and suspension compo-
