Description
May have been published by the Maitand Club of Glasgow sometime between 1920 and 1850. The President was Earl of Glasgow. Members of the club affected Latin names; thus it may have been Glasgow who signed himself Glasguensis on the first free end page inscribing it to Davidus Therlini and Rio Govarro. (Names are interpreted best we can from the handwriting.) The club was an exclusive group that included Sir Walter Scott. No copies exist for sale to the best of our research knowledge, but three exist in U. S. university libraries, according to the World Cat. This is an unusual, lovely little book in very nice condition. The text is interesting in its translation of the King James text to metered poetry. Here is an example of the 23rd
psalm:
The Lord’s my shepherd. I’ll not want.
He makes me down to lie.
In pastures green. He leadeth me
The quiet waters by.
