Offered for sale is this antique Christian Religious Book titled, THE PEOPLE'S SCRIPTURE GALLERY OF ENGRAVINGS SELECTED FROM THE QUEEN'S, THE NATIONAL, THE DULWICH, THE STAFFORD, THE GROSVENOR, AND OTHER COLLECTIONS BOTH ANCIENT AND MODERN in good to very good overall condition. It was published by J. & F. Tallis out of London and Glasgow and is a fairly RARE publication as there are just a few examples of it on WorldCat! It is not dated but looks like a 1870's era book to me, maybe older. The book is in Two Parts but only has the one title page and it looks to me like it was made that way. There are 124 pages to the first part and 124 pages to the second part with a few more pages at the end that are not numbered. It has full textured leather hardcovers with raised bars on the spine and a gold decorated scene of Sermon on the Mount on the front cover and Rebecca at the Well on the Back Cover. Counting the title page and frontispiece engravings there are 129 engravings in this book that are just beautiful. They show very light foxing, if any. The pages are tight and the hinges still open and close just fine. There is a small paper label under the front cover of a bookbinder out of Utica New York named W.J. Roberts. The pages are gold edged also. The book measures about 11 1/4" by 9". The book is filled with some of the finest engravings that I have seen and would make a wonderful addition to any public or private library or collection.
