    Description

Here is an original US theatrical 1-sheet (27" x 41")  movie poster for the American International Pictures release of
    Tigon's foray
into Lovecraftian S & M, aptly titled The Crimson Cult (1970) (or more aptly titled Curse of the Crimson
    Altar in the UK).
Offering some of the visual appeal of other Tigon productions like Blood on Satan's Claw (1971) or
    Beast in the Cellar
(1972), Crimson Cult greatly benefits from the presence of Boris Karloff, Christopher Lee and Barbara
    Steele as Lavinia
the green witch. And while it the whole is less than the sum of its parts, it still has that organic British
    countryside
atmosphere that enhances so many Tigon films.
It's no doubt what AIP thought was their greatest asset as Karloff was fresh off the critical success and well-deserved
recognition for his performance (as himself) in Peter Bogdanavich's Targets (1968). Barbara Steele also gets a nod
adorned in her ram's horns and seeing the poster in this impressive size you'd swear you were driving into an AIP
    "All-Night Horror Show"!
