George Townsend (1788-1857). Important 19th C. divine, author, professor and later prebendary of Durham. He was best known for his very fine polemical works against the Roman Catholic Church, his edition of Foxe's Book of Martyrs, and his defense of the doctrine of the atonement. Fine 3pp ALS dated to 1854 when Prebendary of Durham. Difficult to read but discusses a fine set of Chrysostom's works in vellum and other books etc., good personal content.
