    Description

Justinian I AE Follis Barbaric Immitation Unknown
A most unusual and interesting imitation of Justin I “Constantinople Mint”
    “Regal Year 12”
    “Gamma Officinia”
    Weight 21.5 grams
    approximately 35mm diameter
Irregular and thick flan with a dark patina
Nothing is usual about this Justinian imitation
from the design on both sides nothing matches any description in David Sear’s Book BYZANTINE COINS & AND THEIR VALUES
I contacted David Sear about one year ago and asked him about this coin and he didn’t have a clue and never ran into one like it.
If it was a fake or a forgery it would at least look similar to Sear 163 but it doesn’t so it is either a barbaric imitation or some sort of military scrip.
What ever this coin is, it is unique
