Description
Eastern Roman Empire aka The Byzantine EmpireEmperor Justinian I 527-565 A.D.
Constantinople Mint
Sear 163
Regal Year 29
Beta Officinia
Nice even brown patina on a small irregular flan with readable legends.
David Sear’s first edition of BYZANTINE COINS AND THEIR VALUES doesn’t list this coins Beta Officinia probably because Mr. Sear didn’t have access to all the information at the time the book went to press; moreover there might not be many of these examples left and this could be only one of a few that made it down to modern times because some of the following Emperor’s mints repurposed their predecessors coins.
Be as it may, this coin may be rare and worth holding on to, unfortunately for me, I am selling my Byzantine coin collection due to my age.
