Description
A superb Herend porcelain Oriental tea & coffee service in the Ming pattern with blue ground comprising teapot, coffee pot, sucrier/covered sugar, creamer & tray. The main decoration is an Oriental interior where a Chinese woman dressed in traditional costume sits on a bench surrounded by urns of flowers. A richly gilded frieze surrounds the upper/outer rims. Rabbits are gambolling beneath her feet and toads/frogs and other stylized objects are scattered about. The subsidiary pattern consists of two Chinese men engaged in conversation. The handles, spouts & finials are formed as Mandarin figures. The teapot (3303/MG) measures 9" from spout to handle, 6 1/2" tall to the top of the mandarin finial & 5" in diameter.  The coffee pot (3311/MG) is 9 1/4" tall, 8 1/4" from spout to handle and 5" in diameter. The sucrier (3353/mg) is 3 3/8" in diameter, 5 1/4" across the handles & 3 3/4" tall to the top of the finial. The pitcher (3342/MG) is 4 1/4" in diameter & 2 5/8" tall. The tray (2439/MG) is 14 1/2" in diameter. There are no no signs that any of the items have ever been used. Each base has the Herend mark in blue with underneath 'Hand Painted' & the model number. The base of the coffee pot is signed by the master artist Bohm Gyulane and the base of the creamer by master artist Kaposvari Rozsa.
There is one small defect. There is a chip to the catch/stopper of the coffee pot lid (photo 22). The catch/stopper is on the underside of the lid and fits under the flange which helps to prevent the lid from sliding when the pot is tipped to pour.
The catch does fit under the flange. The chip cannot be seen when the lid is in place.
