High strength billet “carbon steel 1040-1045” front clutch drum with EXTRA large apply piston: 55% more piston apply area for better than double the clamping force for DRIVE clutch (third gear & reverse). Particularly beneficial in EXTREME applications, H.P., 500+ cubic inches, drag racing, off road, etc. Designed and manufactured as a higher strength part than the OEM cast-iron drums, much higher “burst RPM” than OEM drums (OEM cast-iron drums generally fail at aprox. 10,000 RPM). Destructive testing/burst-test results showing the billet steel drum reaching 18,000 RPM before experiencing distortion and 25,000 RPM failure speed. Gives greater margin of safety if rear sprag were to fail after loss of driveshaft or ring and pinion, particularly when drag racing and in LOW gear leaving the starting line. Capacity is 5 friction discs and 5 OEM steel plates using an OEM pressure plate, same as factory Hemi 426 and 440 Six Pack drum. Drum manufactured with 2 fluid apply slots (versus 1 in OEM drums) to help improve DRIVE-REVERSE clutch clamping force. Includes special oversize billet aluminum clutch apply-piston having 6 anti-spin tangs versus the OEM cast piston with 2 tangs. Supplied with inner lip seal and special “square cut” outer seal. 1971+ front pumps having a Nylon vent baffle must have the Nylon shortened slightly to clear the special drum; instructions are included. REQUIRES: 1971+ “wide-bushing” reaction shaft support (rear half of front pump) and 1971+ rear clutch piston retainer (part which mounts the input shaft). Can be used with a Kevlar KD band.
