Torqueflite 727 ALUMINUM Drum – Capacity = 5 Friction Discs & Steel PlatesNOTE: see a wide variety of Mopar parts at our eBay Store: T’Flite Patty’s Shop Mart
(The aluminum front clutch drums originated primarily to give "NHRA class" drag racers a bit better ET. The advantage also lies in the safety factor for the driver if the car experiences a rear end or driveline failure in LOW gear. Subsequent overrunning clutch damage or failure can occur with the possibility of an OEM cast-iron drum exploding causing catastrophic Torqueflite destruction.)
New-in-the-box, TCS T-6 billet aluminum front clutch drum kit for TF-727 applications. Drum weighs 3 lbs. 2 ozs. versus 7 lbs. for stock iron drum. Capacity for 5 friction discs and 5 steel plates using an OEM pressure plate. Assembled with a 1-piece replaceable bronze sleeve which serves as both bushing and sealing ring surface. Manufactured with 2 fluid apply slots (versus 1 in OEM drums) to help improve DRIVE-REVERSE clutch clamping force. Includes billet aluminum clutch apply piston having 4 locking tangs versus the OEM cast piston with 2 tangs; also supplied with 2 Teflon sealing rings. Much higher “burst strength” than OEM cast-iron front drums; gives greater margin of safety if rear sprag were to fail after loss of driveshaft or ring and pinion, particularly when drag racing and in LOW gear leaving the line. Destructive testing/burst-test results showing the aluminum drum reaching 19,000 RPM before experiencing distortion and failure speed of 36,550 RPM. MUST be used with “wide-bushing” 1971+ reaction shaft support (rear half of front pump) and 1971+ rear clutch piston retainer (part which mounts the input shaft). Primarily intended for drag strip use; can be used in a VERY LIMITED street application. REQUIRES changing fluid regularly, every 25 runs if drag racing. Should NOT be used with a Kevlar KD band.
