Pair of original WWII patches for the 6th Infantry Division.
US machine cotton embroidered cut edge early design "snow-back" with the numeral "6" doen in infantry blue in the center of the star and an early cut-edge US machine cotton embroidered oversize OD border design.
Pre and early war some units included a numerical designation done in the branch color to distinguish various branches within the division.  It is unclear as to whether these were "official" or were approved by local commanders for local wear but there is ample evidence to show that these versions were worn during the pre and early war period.
Passes the black light and burn tests.
The 6th Division was a Regular Army unit originally with HQ in Missouri. It
was sent to Hawaii in late July 1943 to provide for the defense of Oahu where it also received jungle warfare training.
It was later heavily engaged in New Guinea and the Philippines. At the end of the war the Division was assigned occupation duty in the South Korea.
The Division was credited with 306 days of combat in the Pacific Theater.
    If you collect
