    Description

Vintage WWI Manual of Catholic Devotions for Soldiers & Sailors with Crucifix in Pocket Case
The is a rarely seen World War I soldier's religious pocket case. On the inside is a crucifix in a decorative embossed setting with a Sacred Heart medal beneath it. The medal is hinged and opens up like a locket to reveal Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. I'm not sure what the little compartment was for---perhaps a picture or little memento? Beneath the medal is the handwritten name and address of the Corporal who owned this. I have covered it with a little piece of white tissue paper in the pictures for privacy's sake.
It also holds a little book titled
Manual of Catholic Devotions for Soldiers and Sailors,
dated 1905. The little empty compartment beneath the book was meant to hold a rosary (not included). When closed, the case is about 2 3/4" x 5".
Condition: The case snaps closed well. The book has separated from its covers (see pictures).  One length of the cloth-covered cardboard has a tear in the cardboard & cloth (see last picture).
Please see all the pictures for finer detail and ask any questions that might be helpful.
Though it shows its age and use, it is a unique and rare memento of the men & women who served our country. A great addition to any collection.
    THANKS FOR BIDDING!
