    Description

    The Patch:
This Auction is for 1 WWII Vintage XI Corps 2nd Design shoulder patch with a white back. This design features the 2 dice that total 11.
This patch is in good condition.  It has a very nice white backing.  This patch does not glow under the UV light and is guaranteed to be authentic.
The History: The XI Corps was activated on June 15, 1942.  This version of the patch was worn until September 3, 1942.  If has a design based on the
    Bunker Hill
flag which had its origins in 1747 and is suggestive of the region where the corps was based.  The Corps embarked for the Pacific Theater in March of 1944 They were sent to
    New Guinea
to serve in the region near Aitape.  They soon faced off and stopped an attack by the Japanese 18th Army.  After this action the corps went on the offensive and destroyed enemy forces in the Battle of Driniumor.  The XI Corps next made assault landings on Morotai.  They secured the island allowing for bombers to have a base to attack the
    Philippines
and it also cut off Japanese forces in
    New Guinea
.  They mext took part in Operation Musketeer VII, the amphibious assault on
    Eastern Luzon
.  They secured Subic Bay and cut off
    Bataan
so that the Japanese could not defend it as we had in 1942.  On February 16th, the Corps directed operations against
    Corregidor
.  The Corps then fought across Central Luzon, securing the entrance to
    Manila
    Bay
and securing several important dams in the region.  On June 30th the XI Corps was relieved to plan for the upcoming invasion of
    Japan
.  The invasion never occurred and the corps spent several months on occupation duty.  The XI Corps was inactivated on March 11, 1946..
