XXI Corps White Back Patch WWII Vintage Europe France Germany

The Patch:
This Auction is for 1 WWII Vintage XXII Corps patch with a white back.
This patch is in good condition.    It has a very nice white backing.  This patch does not glow under the UV light and is guaranteed to be authentic.
The History:  The XXI Corps was activated on December 6, 1943 at
Camp Polk
,
Louisiana
.  It trained 200,000 men in 70 different units before embarking for
Europe
in November of 1944.  The corps was assigned to the Seventh Army and was positioned along its left flank near the Maginot Line.  In February of 1945 it took up operations to reduce the Colmar Pocket.  Elements of the 3
rd
Division crossed the
Rhein
Rhine
Canal
and captured Kunheim.  The
Colmar
pocket was reduced on February 9
th
and the XXI Corps was moved to Morhange.  Elements of the Corps encountered heavy resistance near Forbach but they pushed into the Siegfried Line and crossed the
Saar
River
.  The Corps crossed the
Rhine
River
at Manheim on March 28
th
and attacked east towards
Wurzburg
and
Schweinfurt
.  The corps turned south with the Seventh Army and crossed the
Danube
River
into
Austria
.  They captured Lansburg and moved toward
Innsbruck
and the
Brenner
Pass.
They accepted the surrender of German Army Group G on May 6
th
.  After the cessation of hostilities the XXI Corps remained on occupation duty.  The corps was discontinued on September 30, 1945.
